Montmartre’s magic can quickly fade when you are jostling through crowds at Sacré-Cœur Basilica or queuing for a photo in Place du Tertre, barely able to enjoy the authentic Montmartre village atmosphere.
Many travelers arrive excited for a classic Montmartre walking tour in Paris, only to leave frustrated by selfie sticks, street vendors, and a rushed, noisy atmosphere that feels more like mass tourism than a romantic Paris neighborhood.
On our Private Montmartre Walking Tour in Paris, your local, English-speaking guide carefully plans the itinerary to naturally avoid the worst crowds, slipping into quiet cobbled backstreets, hidden stairways, and secret viewpoints over Paris where you can actually pause, breathe, and take the photos you imagined.
The combination of cobbled streets, long staircases, and constant inclines around Sacré-Cœur can feel intimidating when you know you will be stuck at a fixed pace with a large group.
Instead, on our Private Montmartre Walking Tour in Paris, your local, English-speaking guide adjusts the walking pace, route, and number of stairs to your family’s comfort level, choosing gentler slopes, using backstreets, and adding breaks at pretty viewpoints over Paris. In addition, tickets for the Montmartre funicular are included, so you can glide up the hill instead of climbing hundreds of steps. Because the tour is private and flexible, you are not dragged along with a big group and can linger when the light is perfect over the rooftops of Paris.  You still experience the Sacré-Cœur, Place du Tertre, and the historic Montmartre artists’ quarter, but with context, space, and a calmer rhythm that lets Montmartre feel like a village again.
With Paris & Beyond Tours, you are not just paying for “a walk”. Instead, you are booking an expert local guide who knows Montmartre by heart, from its hidden staircases and quiet backstreets to the stories behind its artists, cafés, and village squares.
Rather than a generic script, your guide tailors the pace, route, and content to your interests and your energy level on the day. As a result, you avoid time-wasting detours, tourist traps, and overcrowded viewpoints, focusing instead on the best views, authentic spots, and meaningful stories. Moreover, because the tour is private and customizable, every minute of your time in Montmartre delivers value, making the experience feel less like a cost and more like a highlight of your Paris trip.
Your guide will be holding a meeting sign “Paris And Beyond Tours”. For any assistance and inquiry, please call/text our team at +33 6 33 86 03 14 or email [email protected].

Montmartre is on a hill with some slopes, cobblestones and stairs, so there is a bit more walking effort than in flat neighborhoods, but the pace is gentle and we can adapt the route if needed.
The tour is conducted in English. Other languages are available on request, depending on guide availability at the time of your visit.
Yes, Montmartre works very well for families; guides can adapt stories and stops to keep kids engaged with artists, funny anecdotes and great viewpoints.
Because of the hills, stairs and cobblestones, Montmartre can be challenging for guests with reduced mobility. If this is a concern, please let us know so we can discuss the best options and possible route adaptations.
Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended, as well as weather-appropriate clothing (a light jacket or umbrella if rain is forecast, hat and water in warmer months).
