What to expect

Real Tools, Real Stone, No Watered-Down Crafts

Children work with real carving tools and real limestone, guided one-on-one by a professional stone-cutter who practices these same techniques on actual restoration projects. From the first mallet strike to the finished piece, your child experiences the genuine difficulty and genuine satisfaction of medieval stonework, scaled to a pace they can master, authentic technique from start to finish.

What About Different Ages in the Same Family?

Traveling with kids of different ages usually means someone’s bored while someone else is engaged. Here’s how this experience handles that honestly: the carving workshop itself is best suited to children aged 6-7 and older, since it requires enough hand strength and focus to use real tools safely. Younger siblings are warmly welcome to join the family, watch the workshop up close, and take part fully in the walk to Notre-Dame afterward, no one is left out of the day, even if the very youngest aren’t swinging a mallet themselves. If your group is entirely under 6, this particular workshop may be more frustrating than fun for them, and we’d rather tell you that now than after you’ve booked.

Built for Attention Spans, Not Against Them

Every child has their own stone and their own artisan attention throughout, no lecture to sit through, no waiting for a turn. The workshop is paced so children are actively doing something with their hands from the very first minutes, which is exactly why kids who typically squirm through museums or struggle to sit still tend to thrive here. There’s nothing passive about it, so there’s nothing for restlessness to take hold of.

A Manageable Walk, Not a Marathon

After the workshop, families often worry about more walking on top of an already full trip. This is intentionally short: a 30-minute stroll through medieval streets, ending at Notre-Dame, not a multi-hour hike across the city. It’s an easy stretch after sitting at the workbench, paced for whoever’s in your group, and it gives the workshop a destination instead of just ending in a room with a finished stone and nowhere to take it.

A Souvenir That's Actually Theirs

Every child keeps the stone they personally carved, a genuine medieval-style piece weighing under 1 kg (airport-friendly, no special packing required). It’s not a trinket bought on the way out, it’s proof of an afternoon spent doing something hard and finishing it. Many parents tell us it becomes the one souvenir from the whole trip their child still talks about months later, not because it’s expensive, but because they made it themselves.
