What Makes This Saint Germain Food Tour Special?

Not all food tours work for families—but ours does. We’ve spent years perfecting an experience that satisfies curious kids AND foodie parents.

Kid-Approved Tastings (Not Boring Adult Food!)

We know children aren’t miniature food critics. Every stop features tastings chosen because kids genuinely love them:

  • Colorful macarons with crisp shells and soft, chewy centers in fun flavors
  • -Gooey salted butter caramel that feels like a little bite of heaven
  • -Smooth, high-quality chocolate that melts in the mouth (parents can try darker varieties)
  • -Light, cloud-like meringues cakes covered in whipped cream and chocolate shavings
  • -Warm, cheesy puff that are basically the French cousin of a bite-size cheese puff
  • -Delicate south of France specialties with almond and candied fruit that are sweet without being overwhelming
  • -Plus a few extra surprises along the way, depending on the day and the shops we visit

Every tasting has been tested with real families. We skip intimidating dishes and focus on treats that introduce French cuisine in an accessible, playful and delicious way for kids.

Interactive Cultural Experience (Learning Disguised as Fun)

This isn’t a lecture—it’s an adventure. Your guide transforms each stop into an engaging story:

  • Bakery secrets: Why do French baguettes have those special slashes? Kids get to guess!
  • Chocolate detective work: Can your children identify vanilla, caramel, or hazelnut flavors?
  • Cheese texture game: Soft, hard, or in-between? Little hands get to (gently) touch and taste

A Private Food tour Designed by Parents, for Parents

Our tour founders are parents themselves. Every detail considers real family needs:

  • Bathroom breaks planned into the route
  • Stroller-accessible paths most of the time
  • Flexible pacing if someone needs a moment
  • Weather backup plans (most stops can be indoors)

We’ve thought of everything so you can simply enjoy the experience.

Discover the Heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés

Your Saint Germain pastry tour isn’t just about food, it’s also about experiencing one of Paris’s most beautiful neighborhood.

Historic Landmarks You'll See

As you walk between shops, you’ll also learn about the neighborhood itself. First, you’ll pass the Saint-Germain-des-PrĂ©s Church, the oldest church in Paris! Next, your guide shares fun stories about how this church is over 1,500 years old in a way that makes history feel exciting instead of boring.

Then, as you stroll down Boulevard Saint-Germain, you’ll see beautiful cream-colored buildings with fancy iron balconies. These buildings are what make Paris look like Paris! After that, your guide shows you hidden courtyards and secret passages, which makes kids feel like real Paris detectives.

Along the way, you’ll also pass famous cafĂ©s, like les deux magots ou le cafĂ© de Flore where writers used to work. Finally, your guide knows the best photo spots, so you’ll go home with pictures that show the real Paris—not just tourist places.

Food Stories & Legends for Kids

What makes our tour unforgettable? The stories! Your guide shares exciting tales that kids actually want to hear—not boring history lessons.

First, children discover the legend of Saint Germain himself and why this whole neighborhood has his name. The story has enough drama to keep even six-year-olds hooked! Then, you’ll learn the real story of the birth of croissant involving Austrian bakers against a Turkish army !

Next, hear about how chocolate came to France through Spanish princesses and royal drama. Plus, kids love the medieval baker secrets—especially why bakers had to stamp special symbols on their bread to prove they were honest.

But here’s the best part: you’ll also meet the stories behind the actual chefs and food makers in the neighborhood today. For example, discover why a young chocolatier from Lyon decided to open his shop on this exact street corner, or hear about the fourth-generation baker whose great-grandmother started making croissants in this same location over 100 years ago.

These aren’t just facts to memorize. Instead, they’re real stories about real people that help kids understand how food connects to history, culture, and community—in ways they’ll remember long after the tour ends.

Is the Food tour suitable if "My Child Is a Picky Eater..."

This is our #1 question from parents. Here’s our approach:

No Pressure Philosophy:

  • We NEVER force children to try anything
  • Alternative options at every stop
  • Our guides use gentle encouragement :  The items become more desirable when their stories are told

Success Stories:

  • 90% of “picky eaters” try at least 3 new foods
  • The group dynamic helps, guide and parents eating trigger gregarious behaviour
  • Small portions reduce intimidation

Safety Net: If your child refuses everything (rare, but it happens), our guides always have:

  • Plain bread
  • Water
  • Patience and understanding

Is this tour suitable for young children (under 5)?

Short Answer: They’re welcome, but the tour is optimized for ages 5+.

Longer Answer: Babies and toddlers can absolutely join (we love having them!), but:

  • Toddlers 2-4 may not walk the full distance
  • Some food textures may not work for very young palates
  • The cultural stories engage older children more effectively

What We Provide for Little Ones (4yo or less ):

  • Small taste portions (free of charge), they don’t have the set package the other participants will have.
  • Flexible pacing if needed
  • Understanding that nap schedules rule the day

Parent Feedback: Many parents with 3-4 year-olds have enjoyed the tour, especially with baby carriers or strollers. The oldest child benefits fully, and little ones enjoy the atmosphere.

What if my child has food allergies?

We take allergies very seriously.

Process:

  1. Indicate allergies in the booking notes OR email us after booking
  2. 48-hour minimum notice required (earlier is better)
  3. Guide confirms everything before the tour starts

Common Allergies We Accommodate:

  • Gluten/Celiac (they can even have the most traditional buckwheat crepes !!)
  • Dairy/Lactose
  • Tree nuts & peanuts
  • Eggs
  • Soy

Severe Allergies: For life-threatening allergies, we:

  • We cannot guarantee no cross contamination as most of the shops are artisanal
  • We can add more items at the stops that works, cutting the ones that don’t.
  • Recommend bringing an EpiPen, our guides are not required to be first aid trained

How much walking is involved? Will my kids get tired?

Total Walking Distance: Approximately 1/2 mile ( about 0.9 km)

Walking Pattern:

  • Walk 3-5 minutes → Stop for 20-30 minutes → Repeat
  • Frequent breaks built in
  • Most time spent standing/sitting, not walking

Terrain:

  • Flat sidewalks (Saint-Germain is very walkable)
  • No hills or stairs (except optional for bathrooms)
  • Paved surfaces throughout

Kid Energy Management:

  • High-energy kids: The stops provide mental stimulation
  • Lower-energy kids: Frequent breaks and food = happy children
  • “I’m tired!” moments: We build in flexibility

Parent Tip: Bring a lightweight stroller even for kids who “don’t use it anymore.” It can be a lifesaver during the last 30 minutes if little legs are truly exhausted.

Reality Check: In 5+ years of tours, we’ve never had a child unable to complete the route. The combination of delicious food and engaging stories keeps them motivated!

What happens if it rains?

Paris in the rain has its own charm!

Good News:

  • 4 out of 5 stops are completely indoors
  • Walking distances between stops are short
  • The cafĂ© stop is a perfect rain refuge

What to Bring:

  • Umbrellas (we carry an extra in general)
  • Light rain jackets
  • Waterproof shoes

Bonus:

  • Fewer tourists on rainy days quieter tour
  • Hot chocolate tastes even better! (after the tour)

Cancellation for Severe Weather: We only cancel for genuinely dangerous conditions (storms, flooding, etc.). Heavy rain is too common in Paris for the tours not to run.
